Ever since moving to a mirrorless digital camera (a Sony NEX 5N) around 3 years ago I have become a complete convert to only using manual focus lenses to perform every kind of photography. As someone using lenses designed, built and marketed in the 1970s, 80s and early 90s I have found the Internet extremely useful in identifying the specifications of lenses and finding out whether the lenses are any good or not. However, it is still difficult to find information out about some of the lesser lenses that you can pick up cheaply on Ebay and other more expensive lenses don’t have a one-stop source of information on that lens.
I’ve therefore created this website / blog to do several things:
- It will review as many lenses as I can get my hands on, as well as collating all of the technical and marketing information that I can find for each lens.
- It will give sample images and link to my larger Flickr galleries for each lens.
- It will showcase my best work as a photographer and offer prints and digital images for sale.
This is a substantial undertaking as I have already owned a lot of manual focus lenses, so to begin with the reviews will be quite basic. However, I do intend in future to do reviews a bit more in depth – comparing sharpness across the frame at different apertures, for example.
This lens will be constantly updated, so please share it with any other users of manual focus lenses and feel free to share your experiences with any of the lenses posted here.
