This is a pleasant and easy walk via a country lane, forest gravel tracks and a rough, grassy track. Less than 4m in distance and 500ft of ascent gives you great views from the 470m summit of Cefn Gwyngul, which is topped by a trig point and is on open ground. A really good walk this one and parking is at a carpark next to a nice looking pub with a good beer garden, so you could easily plan this walk around a meal or drink and you could take in the reservoir and waterfall nearby as well.

The walk starts near the pub and Saint Gwynno Church, where the legendary athlete Guto Nyth Brân (1700–1737) is buried in the churchyard. A plaque tells you all about him and you’ll walk past this as you head up the country lane.

The road has a bit of traffic, but you can walk along the side without too many issues. After a while you’ll come to the correct forest track, heading off to the right.

The forest track is very pleasant walking, lots of butterflies and bird song on a summer’s day and also relatively sheltered. You’ll find the left turn easily enough, that takes you up another track and to the other side of the hill, swinging right up onto the top of the ridgeway and through a fence – it has been flattened – to the trig point.

The summit trig point is on top of a little mound and offers great views in most directions.

I took a different route back, a rougher track that offered different views but takes you back to the same country lane eventually.

The walk along the country lane takes you back over the ridgeway and back down to the car, completing a really nice walk and a good hill.
