I walked Garreg Las from a car park on the A4069, summiting Garreg Lwyd on the way towards Garreg Las. It is quite a long walk and you have a hill summit in between which takes time and adds an extra ascent and descent.

Garreg Las
You can see Garreg Lwyd in the distance and you can see that this it is a decent walk towards Garreg Las and the intermediate peak is substantial. Tamron Adaptall SP 24-48 @ 24mm, f11.

After smooth walking over soft grass the approach to Garreg Las summit is extremely rocky and you can’t avoid them, no matter how carefully you try to plot a path. For this reason I would be very cautious doing this with much snow on the ground as these rocks are jagged and uneven – it is as if they are designed to sprain your ankles.

The space between mountains
The slight valley towards Garreg Las has a small pond, this is looking South. Tamron Adaptall SP 24-48 @ 24mm, f11.
Garreg Las
There are two paths up, one is following the Beacons Way which takes you from right to left on top of the ridgeway. The other is the South Wales Traverse, which also takes you from right to left, but on a lower route which then goes up steeply nearer the summit. Tamron Adaptall SP 24-48 @ 48mm, f11.
Garreg Las
Look carefully and you’ll see a lone walker on the Beacon’s Way path. Tamron Adaptall SP 24-48 @ 48mm, f11.

The summit is unusual in that there is no trip point, but instead two stone mounds.

The views from the summit are nice and the walk from the car park is lengthy, but not beyond most people. I carried on walking towards Waun Lefrith and I can highly recommend the next four peaks, although it makes the walk nearly 19 miles.
