I walked Garreg Las from a car park on the A4069, summiting Garreg Lwyd on the way towards Garreg Las. It is quite a long walk and you have a hill summit in between which takes time and adds an extra ascent and descent.
After smooth walking over soft grass the approach to Garreg Las summit is extremely rocky and you can’t avoid them, no matter how carefully you try to plot a path. For this reason I would be very cautious doing this with much snow on the ground as these rocks are jagged and uneven – it is as if they are designed to sprain your ankles.
The summit is unusual in that there is no trip point, but instead two stone mounds.
The views from the summit are nice and the walk from the car park is lengthy, but not beyond most people. I carried on walking towards Waun Lefrith and I can highly recommend the next four peaks, although it makes the walk nearly 19 miles.
